Chinitsu

清一色 | Chinitsu

Build your entire hand from tiles of a single suit with no honor tiles.

Han Value
6 han (closed) / 5 han (open)

Example Hand

1m 1m 2m 3m 4m 5m 6m 6m 7m 7m 7m 8m 9m 9m

Conditions

  • Every tile in the hand must belong to one single suit (all characters, all circles, or all bamboo)
  • The hand must contain no honor tiles (no winds or dragons)
  • Worth 6 han when the hand is closed, 5 han when open
  • Any valid hand shape is allowed (sequences, triplets, or a mix)
  • If honor tiles are present alongside a single suit, the hand is honitsu instead

Strategy Tips

  • Chinitsu is the highest non-yakuman yaku in the game and can easily push your hand into mangan or haneman territory when combined with other yaku like tanyao, pinfu, or ittsu.
  • Committing to chinitsu means discarding tiles from two entire suits plus honors, which signals your intent clearly to opponents. Start building toward it early before your discards become too obvious, and consider holding a few off-suit tiles early to disguise your plan.
  • Chinitsu hands often have complex waits with many possible winning tiles, which makes them hard for opponents to read defensively. Take time to count your waits carefully so you don’t miss a winning discard.
